Magic Millions

Millionaire sheiks, owners, trainers, and hordes of happy punters all rub shoulders to witness the best young racehorses in the country. Each January The Gold Coast plays host to the richest horse race in Queensland, with the Magic Millions Classic winner receiving one million dollars.

Since establishment in 1987, the Magic Millions Carnival has become recognised both nationally and internationally as one of Australia’s premier thoroughbred racing events. Hosted by the Gold Coast Turf Club, the raceday is the culmination of an extensive schedule of racing, sales and functions across the Gold Coast.

The most prestigious races being the $1million Conrad Jupiter’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy run for the stars of the previous Magic Millions Sales.

The Magic Millions is a great event, but the big action is often off-track with one of the most dynamic horse sales in the Southern hemisphere.

Australian owners compete with Arab Sheiks, Asian Tycoons, and representatives from Europe’s top studs for the honour of purchasing the best bloodline yearlings. It is not unusual for top offerings to sell for over one million Australian dollars. But it’s not all about the big end of town; there are still bargains to be had. There have been many instances where yearlings sold for less than the value of the family car have turned out to be future champions.

The atmosphere at the auctions is dynamic- no matter if you are a serious bidder or purely an observer, you are sure to get caught up in the excitement and find yourself dreaming of which lot you would bid on and how much you would offer.
